How to file income tax return online for salaried persons using excel utility?

       Now it is mandatory to file IT return online for those income is greater than or equal to 5 lakhs. Income tax has introduced e-Filing facility few years back. This facility  helps you to file IT return online without standing on the queue which almost saves a day. Thanks to income tax department.   With the below easy steps, you can file return online. 

Step 1: Register yourself in the official website of income tax department by simply giving your PAN, Name, date of birth, e-mail and mobile number.

Step 2: Download the suitable ITR form (excel file from the official web site)... For Salaried persons, ITR-1 (SAHAJ) or ITR 2 may be downloaded. Who can use which  ITR Form may be seen at http://incometaxindia.gov.in/download_all.asp

Step 3: Fill the excel file using FORM 16 given by your employer.
a) Open the excel file, and enable macro by clicking the options button displayed when you open the excel file.
b) In the first sheet (Income Details), fill personal details like name, address, mobile number, email,PAN number,  etc...
c) Fill the income details like income from salary, deductions, etc..
d) After filling the above details, please click on the validate button in the sheet. If it is ok, then proceed to the next sheet.
f) In the second sheet (TDS), fill the details like TAN, name of the employer, tax deducted at source on source other than salary,  advance tax and self assement tax payments. Validate the sheet.
g) In the third sheet (Taxes paid and validation), fill details like Account Number, IFSC code, place and date and validate the sheet.
h) In the forth sheet (80G), fill details like donations entitled for deduction under section 80G and validate the sheet.

Step 4: In the first sheet, click on the button Calculate Tax. Now the tax is calculated based on the income and deduction details. Please verify the TDS and  taxes paid (TDS + advance tax + self assesment tax). You can also check the tax payable by you or refund to be made to you.

Step 5: Now in the first sheet, click on the generate XML button  and save it in  a folder on your computer.

Step 6: Login to income tax e-filing site

Step 7: Click on upload return and upload the XML file and submit. Now you will get a link to download the ITR-V/Acknowledgment. Download the pdf file and open by giving the password (Your pan number (small case) and date of birth) . For example, if your PAN is AERWT3453G and date of birth is 23/05/1980), then the password is aerwt3453g23051980. Acknowledgement is also sent to you in your e-mail.

Where to send the ITR-V/Acknowledgement ?
        Print the acknowledgement and  send the duly signed Form ITR-V to
 “Income Tax Department  - CPC, Post Bag No - 1, Electronic City Post Office, Bengaluru - 560100, Karnataka”   by ordinary / speed  post only wiithin 120 days from date of transmitting the data electronically. The confirmation of receipt  will be sent to your e-mail address
